Introducing

Bird Blade

In the world of wingshooting, cherished traditions have long ensured the passing down of gear like shotguns, calls, lanyards, and clothing from one generation to the next. However, knives—a vital tool for every hunter—have often been overlooked. The Bird Blade seeks to merge the spirit of the Old West with the demands of today’s hunters, positioning knives as heirlooms to be treasured and passed down alongside other beloved gear. Our mission is to firmly establish knives as a key element of the wing shooting tradition.

PRODUCT CARE

Your Bird Blade is crafted from high-quality 440C stainless steel with a durable G10 handle, ensuring both strength and resilience throughout the season.

To maintain its performance and longevity, follow these care tips:

  1. CLEANING: After each use, rinse the blade with warm water and mild soap. Use a soft cloth to dry it thoroughly. Avoid soaking the blade or exposing it to hard chemicals, as this may cause damage to the finish.

  2. SHARPENING: The 440C stainless steel blade hold an edge well, but regular sharpening ensures optimal cutting performance. Use a whetstone or professional sharpening tool to keep your blade sharp for limits to come.

If you would prefer your Bird Blade be sharpened by a professional, you can send it in to Yukon Forge or Flying V, where John McNerney or Brady Davis will hand sharpen your blade and send it back free of charge.

  3. STORAGE: Store your Bird Blade in a dry environment to prevent moisture build up.  During the off-season, consider applying a light coat of mineral oil to the blade to protect it from corrosion.

LEATHER CARE

To keep your leather sheath in excellent condition and prolong its lifespan, follow these care guidelines:

  1. CLEANING: Gently wipe the leather sheath with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt or dust. Avoid soaking the leather in water, as this can cause it to become stiff or lose its shape.
  2. CONDITIONING: Periodically apply a leather conditioner or a natural leather oil (like Skidmore’s or beeswax) to keep the leather supple and prevent cracking. Apply sparingly and buff with a clean cloth. Avoid over-conditioning, which can weaken the leather.
  3. DRYING: If the sheath becomes wet, let it air dry naturally in a cool, well-ventilated area. Avoid placing it near heat sources like dashboards or direct sunlight, which can dry out and damage the leather.
  4. STORAGE: Store the sheath in a dry, cool place when not in use. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture, which can lead to mold or mildew. If storing the sheath with the knife inside, ensure the blade is clean and dry to prevent moisture buildup inside the sheath.

By maintaining the leather properly, your sheath will stay in great condition and protect your Bird Blade for years to come.
